Jordan Employer Alert: One Month Left
The limited window to regularize the status of non-Jordanian workers ends on 30 September 2026. Employers should use the remaining month to reconcile employee records with permits, professions, work locations and the actual employing entity.
A practical review should include a complete employee list, permit-validity checks, identification of mismatches, preparation of supporting documents and follow-up until each case is completed. Submitting an application in the final days may not leave enough time to correct missing documents or obtain additional approvals.
Requirements can vary by nationality, sector, profession and individual status. Each case should therefore be assessed against the current instructions of the competent authorities.
Global Economic Developments
Federal Reserve signals that rates may rise
Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh said U.S. inflation remains too high and indicated that additional rate increases may be needed in the coming months. Higher rates could increase business borrowing costs, support the dollar and pressure interest-sensitive assets.
AI investment remains strong
Nvidia reported results above market expectations, supported by continued demand for artificial-intelligence chips and data-centre infrastructure. The results confirm that AI investment remains a major driver of technology-sector earnings, although high valuations and financing costs remain important risks.
Global Market Review
U.S. equities finished the week with modest gains: the S&P 500 rose 0.5%, the Dow Jones gained 0.5% and the Nasdaq advanced 0.8%. The Russell 2000 index of smaller companies fell 1.5%, indicating that investors continue to favour larger companies with stronger earnings and liquidity.
Oil
Oil prices declined as hopes of easing regional tensions reduced part of the geopolitical risk premium. Brent crude fell 3.6% in one session to USD 87.27 per barrel. Businesses should avoid using a single oil-price assumption and instead test low, base and high scenarios for energy, freight and input costs.
Gold and Silver
Gold ended the week near USD 4,459 per ounce and silver near USD 66.39. Both metals came under pressure as expectations for higher interest rates and bond yields increased. Geopolitical risk and debt concerns may provide medium-term support, but silver is likely to remain more volatile because of its industrial-demand exposure.
Bitcoin and Digital Assets
Bitcoin ended the week near USD 77,830 after a strong earlier rally. Expectations of tighter monetary policy triggered profit-taking. The near-term direction remains sensitive to bond yields, dollar liquidity, regulation and risk appetite. Digital assets remain highly volatile.
What to Watch This Week
Markets will focus on the U.S. employment report, JOLTS job openings, ISM manufacturing and services surveys, and preliminary European inflation data. These releases may materially change expectations for the Federal Reserve's September decision.
