Regulatory alert · fixed deadline

Regularising non-Jordanian workers before 30 September 2026

The official regularisation period runs from 15 June to 30 September 2026. Employers should review each worker’s status, permit validity, registered occupation and sector, and any missing or inconsistent documentation. Requirements must be assessed case by case.

OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY

Managing outdoor work during peak heat hours

The Ministry of Labour directed that workers in outdoor locations exposed directly to sunlight should not work between 12:00 and 3:00 p.m. during the heatwave covered by its circular, while allowing working hours to be reorganised into morning or evening periods. Companies should document schedules, update safety instructions and communicate changes clearly.

FINANCING & LIQUIDITY

Central Bank of Jordan keeps its main policy rate at 5.75%

The Open Market Operations Committee kept the main policy rate and other monetary-policy instrument rates unchanged. Stable rates do not remove financing risk: management should still review repricing terms, debt service and next-quarter liquidity under a base case and a more cautious scenario.

Rates, oil and US data converge in one week

The Federal Reserve minutes released on 19 August noted that geopolitical developments and higher oil prices had affected yields, equities and the dollar during the meeting period, while the economic outlook remained highly uncertain. This is not an investment signal; it is a reminder for regional companies to stress-test the impact of the dollar, financing costs and energy on pricing and liquidity.

On the calendar: the US Bureau of Economic Analysis is scheduled to publish the second estimate of Q2 GDP and July income and spending data on 26 August. The US Energy Information Administration’s weekly petroleum report is due the same day.

Management checklist for the next 30 days

  1. Create one register for non-Jordanian workforce cases, with an owner, documents and a follow-up date for each case.
  2. Review field-team arrangements, safety instructions and documentation of any working-hours changes.
  3. Re-test liquidity and debt-service forecasts under reasonable changes in rates, the dollar and energy costs.
  4. Choose one weekly management indicator: liquidity headroom, collections, financing costs or exposure to input-price volatility.
